the design
project highlights:
The Posey property is a fantastic example of how much can be done with a small plot of land. Organization an understanding of the site & client were the keys to the success for this design. The Posey’s needed this site to perform at a high level, to suit the multitude of demands presented by their family and everyday lives. Being able to understand their desired functionality of this space completely was the only way to properly organize the site to maximize functionality and aesthetic of this property. The name of the game here was maximization, and we were able to achieve that while maintaining balance throughout the design.
project summary:
The Posey’s were in the process of building the home they plan to retire to when they came to the decision of creating a beautiful outdoor space for their children and grandchildren to gather in.
This design includes a large stone porch which bleeds into the entertainment corridor created in the rear yard by the plant beds. Providing as much lawn area as possible while also buffering the baseball fields to the rear was the overall goal for the rear yard design. Secondary to the utility of the yard was the overall aesthetic. Mrs. Posey wanted a space lush and vibrant with color and ample seasonal interest. The Posey plant palette came to life with a mix of textures, forms, colors, and a predominance of evergreen planting. Following the bedline will be large “waves” of native wildflowers and perennials to provide an explosion of colors throughout the growing season. This allows the remaining design to be simplistic, elegant, and a naturalistic backdrop to the pockets of color.
The front yard was implemented as a grand entry into the driveway from the cul-de-sac. It will boast vibrancy as well, tying itself to the rear yard, while creating a character all its own. Accent Vitex, flowing muhly grass, and a sea of perennials will provide a rainbow of coordinating colors set against the stark white background of their beautiful forever home!
the final
Installation took place during the fall season. Some plant materials were already in the process of preparing for dormancy, or going through foliage changes!
Once mature, these trees will provide a dense canopy across the entire rear yard. This will be a wonderful spot to escape the intense Alabama summer heat!
Existing canopy trees were saved and protected during construction of the house and installation of the yard.
Beds along the screened in porch will be framed by radiant French hydrangeas, a favorite of Mrs. Posey!
