the design

project highlights:
The main goal for this property was to protect the natural woodland that this home is nestled in, while still providing a livable space. This design preserved a majority of the existing vegetation, implementing only selective clearing of dead wood and invasive species & scrub. To maintain balance between the disturbance needed for the residence and maintaining the natural woodland, native understory plantings, natural stone, and positive hydrological solutions to protect water flow into the surrounding watershed were specified throughout the site. New plantings were focused densely on areas of high disturbance. All exterior amenities were designed to follow the organic topography and existing conditions of the woodland.

project summary:
The Morgan’s are currently in the process of building the home and property they will spend the rest of their lives in. They chose a plot of land that is a dense section of native Alabama hardwoods and pines that’s nestled intimately on a large waterway that is fed by a rushing creek just below the rear of their house. It’s an incredibly scenic and peaceful section of Cullman that they get to call home.

As mentioned, their main goal was preserving the serenity and natural landscape that drew them to this property to begin with. This posed the main challenge as their overall goals for the property would traditionally require a substantial amount of site work. Through creative and strategic design, we were able to help the Morgan’s achieve this goal.
